Welcome to the Canaries
Ages 4 - 5
Our Pre-K class is a kindergarten readiness program designed to equip students with the social and emotional, language and literacy, social studies, creative arts, physical health, math, science, and cognition skills needed to meet Connecticut's kindergarten standards. Our five-day program provides ample time to delve deeper into language, literacy, science, and math.
Getting ready for kindergarten
The Pre-K curriculum promotes growth across all developmental areas, including cognitive, language, math, science, social, and physical skills. Children practice writing their names, their friends' names, and various other words with correct letter formation. Letter work includes building sound-symbol relationships and practicing handwriting using the "Handwriting Without Tears" program, along with weekly journaling. Numeracy lessons cover sequencing, patterning, measuring, counting, and number recognition, with math concepts integrated throughout our daily routines, from morning circle time to small group activities.

Engagement and independence
Science and problem-solving skills are woven into engaging themes, and play activities are both teacher-guided and open-ended for exploration. We also focus on fostering independence skills, such as managing personal materials and belongings, to further prepare children for kindergarten. Lunch with friends is a favorite part of the day, giving children a chance to practice handling their personal items and enjoy social interactions in a group setting.
