Welcome to the Blue Jays

Ages 3 – 4

Our four-year-old class is a readiness program designed to help your child develop the social, emotional, language, literacy, social studies, creative arts, physical health, math, science, and cognition skills needed for Connecticut’s kindergarten curriculum. While we emphasize a play-based approach, children learn through engaging interactions, with all academic activities presented in both small and large group settings.

Open-ended exploration

The program includes activities to promote growth in all developmental domains, such as cognitive, language and literacy, math, science, and physical skills. Children work on recognizing and writing their own names, as well as the names of their classmates. Letter work includes building sound-symbol relationships and practicing proper letter formation. Each week, children complete journal pages to reinforce the "letter of the week" and engage in various incidental learning activities. Numeracy lessons cover concepts like sequencing, patterning, measuring, counting, and number recognition. Science and problem-solving are woven into our themes, while play activities are both teacher-guided and open-ended for exploration.

Life skills and learning

Independence skills like zipping, handwashing, and organizing personal belongings are fostered to further prepare children for kindergarten. Additionally, having lunch at school allows them to practice social and conversational skills, getting comfortable with the routine of eating with friends in a group setting as they will in kindergarten.
